MIAP Med

The Medical Immersion & Apprenticeship Program offered by the National Association of Medical Leaders is a selective program for highly-motivated students to gain in-depth clinical exposure. Fellows shadow physicians, observe surgeries, interact with patients, and learn clinical skills. MIAP's immersive program fosters a high level exposure to advanced healthcare fields, preparing students for careers in the medical sciences, research, and STEM.

2024 Program: Residential Medical College (MCG)

Established in 1828, the Medical College of Georgia is one the nation's first medical schools and among the top-10 largest programs in the United States. MCG offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, pre-medical programs, and a variety of residency programs across numerous specialties.

 

MIAP at MCG:

Throughout the program, students will work within MCG and affiliated hospitals. The Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) is a 520-bed facility that serves as the main teaching hospital for MCG students. It offers a vast array of specialties, including a Level I trauma center, Children's Hospital of Georgia (CHOG), and the Georgia Cancer Center. AUMC provides a robust environment for students to learn across various disciplines. 

 

MIAP Fellows will:

Shadow experienced physicians as they diagnose and treat patients.
Observe a range of surgical procedures.
Interact directly with patients, gaining valuable clinical experience.
Develop essential skills under the guidance of Physicians and Medical Staff.


MIAP is a competitive residential program designed to help students engage in hands-on interactive education.  MIAP is pre-requisite for CIAP (Clinical Immersion and Apprenticeship Program), and MIAP's Shadowing program. MIAP seeks to build academic and  foundation and explore potential career paths within the healthcare landscape. The knowledge and hands-on experience gained during the program empower participants to pursue their academic goals with greater clarity and confidence, whether their aspirations lie in medical school, research endeavors, or STEM-related fields focused on healthcare innovation.  MIAP offers a transformative experience that will equip you with the tools and insights necessary to navigate a successful future in the ever-evolving world of medicine and science.

Our highly collaborative, project-based programs foster close collaboration among participants, leading them to work alongside Healthcare professionals, Physicians, medical faculty and students. This exposure prepares participants for successful careers in healthcare, while concurrently equipping them with essential skills for navigating the ever-changing medical landscape. Rigor and Commitment

The Medical Immersion and Apprenticeship Program (MIAP) is a highly intensive two-week program designed to provide a comprehensive and immersive experience in the medical and healthcare fields. This program demands a significant commitment from participants, as it is structured to push intellectual boundaries and cultivate unwavering focus.

Demanding Curriculum: MIAP offers a rigorous curriculum that delves into a broad spectrum of medical topics. Participants will be challenged by in-depth learning modules, interactive workshops, and potential exposure to real-world medical procedures, observing cadavers, and surgical procedures. This exposure is crucial for fostering a deep understanding of the complexities and realities of the healthcare field.

Academic Excellence: MIAP seeks academically high-performing students with a strong foundation in science and a demonstrated passion for healthcare. The program's rigorous curriculum delves into complex medical topics, requiring participants to think critically, analyze information effectively, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.

Professional Demeanor: Throughout the program, participants are expected to maintain a professional demeanor that reflects the seriousness and responsibility inherent in the medical field. This includes punctuality, respectful communication with faculty, peers, and guest speakers, and adherence to all program protocols and safety guidelines. Residential Immersion: To maximize learning and collaboration, MIAP is a residential program. Participants will live on-site, engaging in a full-day schedule from morning to night. This immersive environment fosters a strong sense of community and allows for dedicated focus on the program's intensive curriculum. The demanding schedule requires a high level of stamina and mental focus, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to navigate the challenges and demands of the healthcare field.

Eligibility

All high school students ages

14-18 and  entering grades 9 through 12 in Fall 2024 are eligible to apply.

To apply, simply complete our online application form. Students may include contact information for an optional recommendation. No other supplemental materials are required.
